Peptic ulcers: An overview
Peptic ulcer, also known as duodenal ulcer or gastric ulcer is a eroded gap or a sore in the gastro intestinal mucous. A burning sensation in the stomach, is a common symptom for “peptic ulcer”. This sensation can be uneven at times, it can be more when the stomach is empty or may come and go for a few days or weeks. A peptic ulcer is usually round with a perpendicular curve and is 2 to 4 cms in diameter, the sides of the ulcer are sore with a redness to them.
80-90% of stomach ulcers are associated with Helicobacter Pylori (a spiral shaped liked bacteria usually found in our stomach), this bacteria weakens the entire defense mechanism and neutralizes the mucus coating, making it more prone to the damaging effects of hydrochloric acids and pepsin. Also, certain medicines such as asprin, ibuprofen or piroxicam usually hamper the digestive capability of the stomach to produce more mucus and bicarbonates.
A past medical history of hyperacidity, heartburn, gastro diseases can indicate a peptic ulcer. While proper diagnosis including endoscopy (Endoscopy is a medical procedure through which a doctor evaluates the esophagus, stomach the intestine) and x-ray examinations (patient is allowed to swallow a white, chalky liquid containing Barium, which illuminates a Ulcer during an X-ray examination.) are available, several other nature care treatments can heal ulcer.
- Raw Goat Milk is consider highly beneficial for healing a peptic sore.
- Milk, cream, butter, fruits, fresh boiled vegetables act as natural supplements.
- High Protein Diets (24% protein)
If a peptic ulcer is ignored, it may perforate at a later stage and gradually explode. This sudden explosion might lead to an internal bleeding or gradual weakening of the body. At this rare stage, surgery may be the option.
